Eldoret Teen Builds Robot from Scrap to Help His Community

A 16-year-old student from Eldoret has captured national attention after building a working robot from discarded electronics to help carry water containers for elderly residents in his village.

Brian Kipruto, a Form Three student at Hilltop Secondary School, spent four months assembling the robot using old mobile phone parts, wires, and a broken wheelbarrow frame. The robot, powered by a small solar panel, can carry up to 20 liters of water over short distances.

“I just wanted to make life a little easier for the elderly people who walk long distances every day to fetch water,” Brian said during a school science fair.

His invention has since gone viral on social media, attracting praise from both engineers and government officials. The Ministry of Innovation has offered him a scholarship and pledged to support further development of his project.

Brian hopes to become a robotics engineer and dreams of launching his own tech company one day.
