Opposition leader Martha Nyaga has called for urgent electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing concerns over transparency and voter confidence in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Speaking during a press conference on Monday, Nyaga urged Parliament to prioritize amendments to the Elections Act and to ensure the IEBC is fully reconstituted by the end of the year.
“We cannot walk into another election cycle with unresolved issues that undermine democracy. The people of Kenya deserve a free, fair, and credible electoral process,” she said.
Her remarks come amid growing pressure from civil society groups, which have also demanded greater accountability and inclusivity in electoral processes.
In response, Majority Leader Joseph Mutua said a bipartisan committee will be formed to review current laws and propose changes before Parliament resumes its next session.
